  5. REQUIREMENTS: <D>You must have an 80286 or 80386 machine with at 
  6. least 1 MB of memory and a hard disk with at least 3 MB of free disk 
  7. space. All applications from which you want to print files must be 
  8. able to print to a PostScript printer.

  12. Welcome to PostScript Magic. With this program you can print PostScript 
  13. files on virtually any printer. With a 300 dpi resolution printer 
  14. such as the HP Deskjet or Laserjet you can have output quality as 
  15. good as the Apple Laserwriter or other $3000 PostScript laser printers.
  16.  
  17. This program was originally developed by a company named Terra Systems. 
  18. Advantage Computer has purchased the product and is releasing it as 
  19. shareware. Any person familiar with a product called PC PostScript 
  20. will find that the shareware version of PostScript Magic is very much 
  21. the same. However, the registered user version of PostScript Magic 
  22. has been significantly improved, especially in the areas of on-line 
  23. help and ease of use.

  25. Much of the use of the program is apparent through on-screen directions. 
  26. Still, a detailed manual will be necessary for most people to fully 
  27. exploit the power of this program.
  28.  
  29. As distributed the program is fully functional. You may print graphics 
  30. at the highest resolution of your printer. I have given only a Times-Roman 
  31. font family. As a registered user you will receive 38 additional fonts 
  32. which include Courier, Helvetica, Palatino, Avante-Garde, Bookman, 
  33. Helvetica Narrow, New Century Schoolbook, Zapf Chancery, Lucretia 
  34. and Zapf Dingbats. You will find all of these fonts to be of the highest 
  35. quality and can be printed at any point size.

  37. Registration includes an improved version of the program, the manual, 
  38. and 38 additional fonts for $39. A collection of high quality business 
  39. forms may be purchased for $20. Please include your name/company name 
  40. and address for orders of the Business Forms Collection. Registered 
  41. users will be given the opportunity to purchase future upgrades for

  50. To install the program correctly you must create a directory named 'PSPC'.
  51. Within that directory create four subdirectories, 'S', 'V', 'TEMP' and 'SPOOL'.
  52. Copy all of the included files into the directory 'PSPC'. Copy all files with an
  53. extension of .s to the subdirectory 'S'. Copy all files ending in the extension
  54. .v to the subdirectory 'V'. Make the addition of this line to your autoexec.bat:

  57.             set pspc=c:\pspc                     
  58. That's it.

  60. ******************************** <B>OPERATION **********************************
  61.  
  62. Most users will want to print a file created by another application. 
  63. Alternately, persons familiar with the postscript programming language 
  64. could print their own files from within the interactive postscript 
  65. section of this program. 
  66.  
  67. In order to print a file created by a program such as Ventura Publisher 
  68. you must first configure your application to print using a PostScript 
  69. driver. Then you must request the application to print to a disk file 
  70. instead of a printer port. After you have exited the application enter 
  71. PostScript Magic to print the disk file to your printer. *** Note 
  72. *** If you register, you will receive a manual which details the use 
  73. of PostScript Magic with many of the popular applications available 
  74. today.

  76. PostScript Magic comes configured for the HP Deskjet as default. If 
  77. you have another printer then you must first run the Configure option 
  78. under the main menu. Next choose the Select Printer option. You will 
  79. be presented with a list of available printers. If your printer is 
  80. not listed you will need to determine if your printer emulates one 
  81. of the included printers.

  83. If your application has no method of sending output to disk file then 
  84. you may use PCapture from within PostScript Magic to capture that 
  85. output to disk file.
  86.  
  87. Individual instructions for printing files created with many popular 
  88. commercial applications are included with the printed manual (available 
  89. with registration). These applications include Ventura Publisher, 
  90. Pagemaker (and Windows based apps.), First Publisher, Word Perfect, 
  91. Microsoft Word, and many others.

  93. EXAMPLES: Their are four demo files included with the program. They 
  94. are named demo1.ps, demo2.ps, demo3.ps and demo4.ps.

  96. To print a file named DEMO1.PS located on drive and directory C:\SAMPLES:
  97.  
  98.             Select PRINT
  99.             Select PRINT FILE
  100.             Select FILE NAME
  101.             Type "C:\SAMPLES\DEMO1.PS" 
  102.             Select Y for Yes
  103.  
  104. The file will now be printed.
  105.  
  106. To print the four demo files located on drive and directory C:\SAMPLES:
  107.  
  108.             Select CHANGE SEARCH STRING
  109.             Type "DEMO?.PS"
  110.             Select PRINT FILE
  111.             Select -C-
  112.             Select SAMPLES
  113.             Select PRINT ALL...
  114.             Select Y for Yes
  115.  
  116. The files will now be printed. 
  117.
